SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, TEXAS is the tropical southernmost part of the
world's longest barrier reef island on the
Gulf of
Mexico at the Texas / Mexico border. Located 2 miles off the southern tip of
Texas, South Padre Island is connected to the mainland by the
Queen Isabella Causeway. South Padre Island is the finest coastal resort in Texas, with beautiful beaches, tall sand dunes, and warm clear clean Gulf waters. few blocks wide, around 5 miles of city real estate, then you can drive north on

Port Mansfield jetties and boat channel. You don't even need a car; you can
walk or bicycle, or ride the free shuttle. South Padre Island boasts the best
fishing in the U.S. in the
Laguna Madre, in the surf and offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.

according to an article on the
Travel Channel website that names the Island as one of America’s Best
Beaches for 2006. The article states that South Padre Island "remains pleasant when the rest of the state is at its coldest. This beach is for the value-conscious traveler … there are scores of moderately priced and budget condo available year round. The South Padre Island's restaurants, bars, shops, movie theater and water sports were also noted. The Travel Channel also recognized South Padre Island in 2000 and 2001 as one of America's Best Beaches.
